De 'chawan' (cha - thee, wan - kom) wordt traditioneel gebruikt bij theeceremonies in Japan. Iedere chawan is uniek en volledig in mijn studio met de hand gemaakt. Elke kom krijgt zo een eigen identiteit en karakter. Bijzondere aandacht is uitgegaan naar de vorm, zodat de chawan lekker in je hand ligt, en fijn is om uit te drinken. Deze chawans zijn natuurlijk ook geschikt voor je cappuccino, latte of koffie. 

Deze chawans zijn gedraaid op de draaischijf met een rode steengoedklei. De volgende dag is de voet afgewerkt en de definitieve vorm bepaald. Het duurt een week voordat de chawan droog genoeg is voor de oven. Deze stookt in 24 uur op tot 960 graden. Daarna is de chawan geglazuurd met een speciaal ontwikkeld Tenmoku glazuur. Het tweede glazuur (Shino) is stijver dan de Tenmoku en zorgt voor een unieke tekening tijdens het smeltproces in de tweede stook. 

Deze chawans zijn niet alleen voor ceremonies. Ze zijn gemaakt om de schoonheid van het alledaagse te vieren en bedoeld om je dagelijks koffie of thee tot een ritueel te maken.

The 'chawan' (cha - tea, wan - bowl) is traditionally used in tea ceremonies in Japan. Each chawan is unique and completely handmade in my studio. This way each bowl gets its own identity and character. Special attention has been paid to the shape so that the chawan lies comfortably in your hand and is pleasant to drink from. The chawans are of course also suitable for your daily cappuccino, latte or coffee.

The chawans are wheel-thrown with a red clay. The foot is finished the day after. It takes a week for the chawan to be dry enough for the oven. The kiln heats it to 960 degrees in 24 hours. After cooling down the chawan is glazed with a specially developed Tenmoku glaze. The second glaze (Shino) is stiffer than the Tenmoku and provides a unique drawing during the melting process in the second firing.

These chawans aren't just for ceremonies. They're made to celebrate the beauty of every day and are meant to make your daily coffee or tea a ritual.
